SUMMARY
Mountain goats are the original mountaineers eking out a living along cliff sides. These sure-footed climbers rarely venture far from the mountain-tops, so how do we understand mountain goat behaviour when they are so hard to observe within their cliffy dwellings? Laura’s research aims to predict high-value habitat hotspots to pinpoint foraging areas, movement corridors and bedding sites. This work will help land managers identify high-value mountain goat habitats and the movement corridors that connect them.
GUEST SPEAKER:
Laura has worked with Parks Canada for 6 years – monitoring everything from wildflowers, white-bark pine and white-tailed deer. Currently she is completing her research focusing on mountain goats and their excursions to mineral licks every spring. Laura’s research takes place in Yoho and Banff National and is currently finishing her masters thesis in Biological Sciences at Simon Fraser University.
